CLEAVE TO YOU (Part I): The reality of Trial and Suffering

What’s good family! I know! It’s been a while since I last shared a blog! First of all I’d like to say thank you for greatly supporting my second album single “Cleave To You”. I’d like to use this opportunity to talk a bit about the heart and message behind this song.

When I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior in 2007, I had a misconception that I was being introduced to a “problem-free” life.  “If God is Good, Perfect and Just, bad things ought to happen to the wicked, while only good things happen to His saints” I thought to myself. However as I studied God’s Word and walked with Him, I became highly exposed to the harsh reality of trial and suffering though serving a Great and Loving God.

In a nutshell, I have discovered 2 types of trials and suffering:

1) The Jonah Trial (Self Inflicted Trials) – As we read the story of the Prophet Jonah, we see him face harsh circumstances as a result of deliberately disobeying God. Eventually he got back on track and fulfilled his mandate of prophesying to the Ninevites. In our lives, this happens when we choose to live in sin and disobedience. God allows trials in our lives to get our attention and correct our lifestyles.

2) The Job Trial (Trials from the Lord) – On the other hand, Job was well known for being upright, pious and faithful to the Lord. Contrary to Jonah, Job faced intense trials because he lived in obedience to the Lord. The same way, every faithful follower of Jesus will be hit by trials. Among the many reasons the Lord allows this to happen, He wants to build godly character in us, as well as test our love for Him.

Regardless of whether our trials are the result of our own bad decisions or not, the solution remains the same; Cleave onto Jesus. My prayer is that this song and blog may inspire you to Cleave onto the Hope of Glory,  and Author and Finisher of our faith.

Part II coming soon……
